Some bloodlines do not permit themselves to be extinguished. They persist not as warmth, but as a chill at the back of the neck, a shadow falling across a name that has been carefully stricken from the records. He was only a boy when the White Lotus betrayed his family. The head of that clan, whose symbol was purity itself, proved to be the most impure thing of all: a friend who smiled while the knives came out. The boy survived, as did his father, though survival, in those first hours, must have felt indistinguishable from death. They fled the ruins of their honor, carrying nothing but a silence that would never again be broken.
But the past is a patient assassin. Before the father could pass on the secret histories, the forbidden techniques, the terrible weight of a name that once commanded reverence, he was taken. Killed not by the grand enemy in open war, but by a single blade in the dark, a final, cruel punctuation to a sentence left deliberately unfinished. The boy was left untaught, unarmed, and unmoored.
LA received him. The streets became his monastery, his dojo, his orphanage. He found a new family there, among the lost and the discarded, and for a time, he believed he might cease to be the person he was born to be. One cannot outrun a birthright, however. It does not shout; it whispers, from the marrow outward. His legacy cried out not as a memory, but as a summons. The Black Lotus does not bloom in gardens. It opens in darkness, in defiance, in the refusal to let a lie stand as history.
Now, he must discover who he truly is. Not the street-raised shadow, not the boy who merely survived, but the heir to something older than the city that shelters him. He must reclaim his family's rightful place in the world, which is to say, he must tear that world open and set the truth inside it, burning.
This is Child of the Black Lotus.
